Spaying and neutering aids in population control, behaviour management, and lowering health risks.
Annex Animal Hospital provides professional spay/neuter surgery services for cats and kittens. Every patient is cared for and monitored by our professional, gentle, animal-loving team of veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians. Each patient receives supportive care such as intravenous fluid therapy, warm blankets and medications for pain control while in our hospital. Our spay/neuter patients are usually discharged from the hospital on the same day as the surgery is performed. You will receive complete care instructions and post-operative pain medications once they are discharged from the hospital by one of our registered veterinary technicians. We will be more than happy to answer any of your questions about the post-surgical recovery process.
Pets that are spayed or neutered at six months of age will benefit greatly from the surgery. With female pets, estrus (known as heat) will be eliminated, and they will no longer experience the “heat cycle.” The surgery also reduces the chances of female pets developing breast tumours, ovarian cysts, and uterine infections as they grow older.
Male pets may display significantly less aggression and territorial behaviours such as urine spraying in male cats. Male pets will also have a decreased chance of developing perineal hernias and several types of cancer later in life.
The benefits of having your pet spayed or neutered will not only benefit your companion and household but will also have a positive impact on the community as it reduces the likelihood of unexpected puppies and kittens.
Once your kitten is fully vaccinated, we highly recommend they be spayed or neutered. Talk to your veterinarian during your kitten’s visit about the health and behavioural benefits of the procedure. We usually suggest cats are spayed or neutered between the ages of four and six months of age.
We discharge our spay/neuter patients the same day so that they may recover under your loving care in the comfort of their own home. You will receive complete care instructions and post-operative pain medications once your cat is discharged from the hospital by one of our registered veterinary technicians. We will be more than happy to answer any of your questions about the post-surgical recovery process. We will follow-up with you by telephone the day after surgery but you are welcome to call us anytime if there are questions or concerns about your cat’s recovery.
