With compassion, pet euthanasia provides a gentle farewell, relieving pain and discomfort.
Whether your cat has experienced a long-term illness or recent trauma, we are here to help guide you through the various medical options best suited for your family and your cat, including humane euthanasia. If your cat’s quality of life begins to decline significantly due to terminal illness or a major injury, it may be time to discuss euthanasia under our trained veterinarian’s care. We are here to help guide you and your family through this process.
Deciding if it is the right time to euthanize your cat is one of the most difficult decisions a pet owner will have to make. At Annex Animal Hospital, we are here for you every step of the way. Our staff will assist you during this difficult time by answering your questions and providing advice about quality of life to help you reach the best decision for both you and your cat. We understand that your cat is a special part of your family, and we take special care to respect you and your family’s wishes for your beloved companion.
We offer several options for aftercare that you may wish to consider in advance. Burial of pets is prohibited within the city, but we can provide cremation services or refer you to a pet cemetery. If you wish, we can arrange for your pet’s cremated remains to be returned to you in an urn. Our team will also collect some little keepsakes for you such as a tuft of fur and a clay paw print impression. We appreciate that everyone wishes to honour their pet’s life in different ways. Please reach out to us if you have a special request and we will do our best to fulfill it or guide you to a service provider.
We understand that you may wish to provide end of life care within the comfort and privacy of your own home. Please call us in advance if you wish to arrange a home visit. We are unable to offer this service on an emergency basis or for all pets. However, we will be happy to make a recommendation over the phone if our veterinarian is unavailable.
Absolutely, yes! We encourage clients to stay and hold their cat to comfort them. We will provide warm blankets, tissues and anything else you might need. You are welcome to spend some time together both before and after if you wish.
Cost for this service is dependant upon your choice of aftercare for your pet’s remains. Our client care team will be happy to provide you with an estimate over the telephone.
For professional support after the loss of a pet, please refer to the Ontario Veterinary College for a list of sources or OVC Pet Trust.
Although we are not qualified to offer counselling services here, please be assured that you are always welcome to communicate with one of our veterinarians.
