CHOCOLATE: Store white, milk, and dark chocolates safely away from pets. Typically, the darker the chocolate, the more toxin it will contain. However, both the amount consumed and the weight of your pet is an important factor in determining toxicity levels. Be sure to call us if your pet consumes chocolate in any form. Keep Halloween candy safely tucked out of reach even if it's packaged. GRAPES: This fruit can cause kidney damage. MACADAMIA NUTS: Causes weakness, depression, vomiting, tremors and hyperthermia in dogs. ALCOHOL: Causes vomiting, diarrhea, decreased coordination, depression of central nervous system, difficulty breathing, tremors, and sometimes coma and death. AVOCADOS: This fruit contains a toxin called persin which can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Birds and rodents are especially sensitive to this toxin. ONIONS GARLIC CHIVES: These vegetables cause gastrointestinal irritation and damage to red blood cells. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. FATTY FOODS AND BONES: High fat foods can cause a very painful condition called pancreatitis. Bones may lead to intestinal blockage or damage from sharp fragments.
